I connected a USB drive to one of the USB 3.0 ports on the motherboard and this new device showed up listed in bold:īus 004 Device 002: ID 067b:2773 Prolific Technology, Inc. It looks like now the USB 3.0 ports on the motherboard are being detected by ESXi. Now, back to the original question: It seems that I am inching closer to make this work. After rebooting, now I am at the latest ESXi 5.5 patch 11. I then downloaded the ESXi 5.5 Express Patch 11 ESXi550-201703001, uploaded to my datastore and used the esxcli command to update. Next, I checked that everything else was working, such as my VMs. ![]() Next, I ran the esxcfg-module -l | grep xhci command and now I noticed that the xhci module is present. So first, I updated to 5.5 Update 3a interactively using the ISO image: I decided to upgrade the ESXi host since you mentioned it was required. Is it possible that maybe it just doesn't exist in my installation? I get gigabit data transfer speeds from the USB storage attached to it so I'm sure that is working fine. However, the USB 3.0 card I have is working just fine. What I did find in the list was ahci and ehci-hcd. I also ran esxcfg-module -l and scrolled through the list and found nothing related to xHCI. Ok, I had a chance to run the command esxcfg-module -l | grep xhci and it looks like it isn't loaded.
